Shea Carr Jewell ranked 99th on ZweigWhite's Hot Firm List for 2011
November 18, 2011

Tough economic times call for strict strategic measures.  In our first year of eligibility for the ZW Hot Firms List, Shea Carr Jewell ranked #105 and for the second year in a row we landed on the top firms list again coming in at number 99. In 5 short years our firm has grown from 3 to 35 employees; from 1 office in Olympia to 3 offices, Olympia, Wenatchee, WA and Westminster, Colorado.  Our growth has not been by accident, luck or a miracle but by purposeful strategic planning and prudent fiscal management.

We credit our strong growth to our communication style and client centric focus. This is our number one priority - this commitment to regular and meaningful collaboration allows us to build stronger relationships with our clients which creates trust, confidence and long-term partnerships.

To keep ahead of the down turned economy we have focused on new geographic markets and have added new technical disciplines to our firms overall capabilities. This included a key acquisition of an A&E firm in Wenatchee to bolster our competitive edge and market penetration in other geographic areas.

Award Winning Engineering Firm Acquires Wenatchee Office
July 5, 2011

Nationally recognized engineering and planning services firm Shea Carr Jewell, Inc (SCJ) has acquired Alliance Consulting Group, Inc of Wenatchee, a community planning and environmental services firm. The acquisition expands SCJ’s presence in the greater Wenatchee Valley where they already had established an office focused on transportation engineering and planning.

The eleven year old Alliance Consulting Group, Inc was owned by Lisa Parks, a well-known community planner who earlier this year became the executive director of the Douglas County Port district. “This is a really positive move for our clients who will enjoy the expanded breadth and depth of services that SCJ offers,” said Parks. “I am excited about the significant talent and abilities SCJ brings to North Central Washington. They are going to be a great asset to our communities."

“We are delighted to be combining our strengths with Alliance's strengths in planning, community building and environmental services to provide a full range of offerings from one local firm,” said SCJ President Perry Shea. “We are very excited to be expanding in the Wenatchee region where we see great potential.”

The combined firm, known as SCJ Alliance, will transition during the summer to one office location at 15 Palouse Street in downtown Wenatchee. They have five employees led by Jerry Litt, previously of Alliance Consulting. “Providing the highest quality professional service has always been the priority for Alliance Consulting. Shea Carr Jewell has a strong reputation for providing integrity driven solutions, which fits well with that priority,” said Litt.

Shea Carr Jewell has had remarkable growth over the last six years. Revenue and earnings have been so impressive the company landed on the 2010 Hot Firms List created by The Zweig Letter which evaluates firms throughout the United States and Canada. They were also named the 2009 Small Business of the Year by the Thurston EDC and were ranked 13th nationally on the Civil Engineering News 2010 Best Firms to Work For list.

In addition to Litt, the five member SCJ Alliance team includes Alliance employees Chuck Jones, an environmental planner and GIS specialist, and Vivian Peterson whose primary focus is long range community planning, development permit review and grant writing. They join SCJ Project Manager David Allen, P.E. and SCJ’s Senior Transportation Designer Dusty Jones.

Founded in 2006 by Perry Shea, Jean Carr, and Bob Jewell, Shea Carr Jewell has grown from three employees to more than 35. In addition to their Olympia and Wenatchee offices, the firm has an engineering specialties group in Boulder, Colorado. They offer core services to clients throughout the United States and abroad. SCJ excels in transportation design, civil engineering, transportation planning, land-use and environmental planning, municipal engineering and planning services.
